Virtual Workshop Description
Dr. Tunnell will present on the topic “From Psilocybin to Esketamine to Zuranolone: What’s New for Depression and Anxiety Treatment?”. The workshop will review new developments in the past 10 years in psychopharmacology of depression and anxiety treatment, important details for therapists to know about these treatments, and how treatments might interact with alcohol or substance use.
Learning Objectives
Describe mechanisms of action and indications for new depression and anxiety treatments
Describe common and serious side effects of new treatments
Describe how alcohol and substance use interact with different medications
Identify ways to use knowledge of new treatments to engage with patients or doctors
Presenter
Jarrod Tunnell, MD MBA
is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in private practice and an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He completed his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and his general psychiatry residency and child psychiatry fellowship at UT Southwestern. He divides his time between his private practice, volunteer work in telehealth for global workers, and the psychiatric emergency department at Parkland. His interests are the intersection of mental health and religion/spirituality, parent-focused therapies for children with disruptive behaviors, and medical education.

: This activity qualifies for 2.0 hours of professional development. Dallas Psychological Association, Inc. (DPA) maintains responsibility for the program and its content as per TSBEP rule 461.11(c)(2)(A).
Counselors
: This activity consists of 2.0 clock hours of continuing education. DPA activities meet the continuing education requirements as outlined in Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors rule 681.142.
Social Workers
: This activity consists of 2.0 clock hours of continuing education. DPA activities meet the continuing education requirements as outlined in Texas State Board of Examiners of Social Workers rules 781.509 and 781.511(a)-(c).
Marriage and Family Therapists
: This activity consists of 2.0 clock hours of continuing education. DPA activities meet the continuing education requirements as outlined in Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists rule 801.264. For all license categories, full attendance is required; no partial credits will be offered for partial attendance. Prior to receiving an attendance certificate, an evaluation must be completed.
